This study examines the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach in Social Studies instruction by linking lesson content to students' real-life experiences within their families, schools, and communities. The research aims to analyze the use of the PBL model in elementary school Social Studies to enhance student learning motivation. A literature review method was employed, gathering data from various relevant sources such as books, journals, articles, and online materials. Findings from relevant studies indicate that the PBL approach is effective; it is applicable to various research designs—including Classroom Action Research (CAR), quantitative, and qualitative studies—and is highly suitable for upper-grade students across any curriculum. It can be concluded that applying PBL in Social Studies—by connecting lessons to students' real lives—is more effective for fostering creative and critical thinking skills, improving learning outcomes, and shaping student character. Thus, the Problem-Based Learning approach in elementary Social Studies can serve to boost student learning motivation.
